How To Communicate Between Computers On Different Networks?

What happens when our computer wants to talk to a computer on different network? We cannot use a switch or hubs because they only talk to devices on the same network. That is where routers come in. Routers are connected to two or more different networks and their job is to send messages between the networks to which they are attached. Many IT Support , Network Support and Computer Support providers prefer using routers nowadays instead of using hubs.
This is a similar job to that of a postman. A postman delivers packages to the right address on different streets. A router does the same thing, only the streets are networks and the houses are computers. In every computer's network setup there is a network address for something called the gateway. The gateway is actually a router that lets computers talk to each other even though they are on different networks. Here is how it works.
When a computer wants to talk to a computer on another network, all it does is sends all of the traffic to the gateway. When the router receives these messages, it either delivers it to the proper computer or delivers it to its gateway. This process continues until the message is delivered to the proper computer.
